Ajo buildings is one of the alternative accommodations which was given to Schubart Park residents after they were evicted in 2011. The building is a student accommodation but for the fact that Schubart residents did not have anywhere to go they stayed there but it is unfortunate that now the living conditions are no longer welcoming. Three of the Schubart residents were targeted. Security guards and the building management are now manhandling people.
A day after the president announced the lockdown, two of the residents had their electricity switched off, after the building manager claimed that they were playing loud music. Trudy Kekana who is one of the residents whose electricity was switched off, her unit complains that after the lockdown there were no building cleaners since they use communal bathrooms and toilets. She raised issues of them getting infected since it’s not hygienic and it is stated loud and clear that hygiene in this critical time should be a priority.
Donald Merafhe who went to visit his mom was manhandled and when fights back they threaten him about opening a case. One tenant who stays in her sister’s unit got evicted without an eviction order during this lockdown saying she is not registered under the City of Tshwane but she has been there since January 2020.
Security guards claim not to know her while she has been staying there, they also manhandled her. It is sad that few people are targeted because they voice out dissatisfaction with the current living arrangement. .
Donald’s electricity is still off in this cold weather.
