STATEMENT: R2K KZN to host a Glebelands Hostel Solidarity Peace Picket
On Wednesday, 24th September the R2K KZN will host a Glebelands Hostel Solidarity Peace Picket at Umlazi Megacity from 11H00-13H00.
Since March this year, over 100 Glebelands Hostel dwellers have been violently and illegally evicted from their homes, their possessions destroyed, they have been threatened, harassed, intimidated and assaulted. Sixteen residents have been assassinated leaving families traumatized and without breadwinners.
Glebelands has been allowed to become a war zone for political plunder!
The police, eThekwini Municipality and political leaders have remained silent while an increasing number of wives have become widows and children become orphans. There have been widespread allegations of corruption, police brutality, political interference and a general failure by the state to act without fear or favour, or even act at all. The situation at Glebelands Hostel is yet another worrying symptom of the widespread erosion of our democracy, constitutional rights and is a direct assault on the rule of law.
The Right2Know Campaign calls on all faith and community-based organizations, local businesses, political leaders, the media, concerned individuals and members of the public to stand in solidarity with Glebelands Hostel dwellers and demand immediate response from all relevant government structures to address this untenable situation and prioritize peace.
AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!
PHANSI NGEPOLITICAL PLUNDER!
VIVA PEACE @ GLEBE!
