WHERE HAS OUR GRANT MONEY GONE?
Stop the stealing – protect our information!
Hou op met die diefstal – bewaar ons inligting!
Yekanani ukuntshontsha- kuselani ulwazi!
The Right2Know Campaign supports the call for Hands Off Our Grants! The actions of the company entrusted with paying out millions of social assistance grants every month represent the worst kind of corporate exploitation of poor and vulnerable people in the interests of maximum profits.
Unlawful and unauthorised deductions were made or enabled by Cash Paymaster Services and its parent compnany, Net1 and its subsidiaries, often through fraudulent means or through misrepresentation.
- Behind a veil of corporate secrecy and using a network of subsidiary and related companies, Cash Paymaster Services and Net1 have seemingly traded in the personal information of grant beneficiaries – for financial gain. Beyond the obligation to protect the personal information of those beneficiaries, the financial exploitation borders on corruption.
We demand that beneficiaries’ personal information is protected!
- Where grant beneficiaries have complained about the unlawful and unauthorised deductions, they have had very little recourse and almost no repayment of the monies that have been stolen. Net1 have made it very difficult for grant beneficiaries to access the company, to lodge a claim in impossible to get any compensation or repayment.
CPS received extra payment of R316 million for ‘services’ from SASSA. These were based on false claims and possibly unlawful and irregular payments.
We demand CPS stop the lies and pay back the money!
Poor people who qualify for social assistance to help them survive should not be vulnerable to corporations seeking to maximise profits out of rendering a social service (and a government obligation). We cannot stand by while the most vulnerable are losing money every month without knowing where it is going and why it is being deducted.
We support the call for the insourcing of the distribution of social assistance grants. SASSA must take back its responsibility as an arm of the State. SASSA must ensure that where fraudulent and unlawful deductions have been made, beneficiaries are fully compensated.
We demand a stop to financial exploitation of the poor and the most vulnerable in our country! WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW!
