Statement: R2K calls for urgent investigations into ongoing Glebelands killings
The Right2Know Campaign calls for immediate investigation into the murder of Sipho Ndovela who was shot in the car park outside Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May.
Ndovela (43), was a key witness in a murder trial and police said the motive for his murder is unknown.
According to friends, as early as 20 April 2015 information was received that a hit was planned for Ndovela’s court appearance on Monday, May 18 or today 21 May when he was to appear as witness in another case against the renowned Block 52 thug. A month ago his wife had been warned, “He will not see court.”
On 21 April 2015 the KZN Violence Monitor wrote to the SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Umlazi Cluster Commander, MEC for Community Safety and Liaison and numerous other police officials to alert them to the numerous threats already made on Ndovela’s life. Serious questions were also raised regarding the integrity of certain police members and the alleged use of official issue firearms and ammunition in much of the Glebelands violence. We demand an urgent investigation into these allegations.
R2K reiterates Glebelands community and Ubunye bama Hostela’s call for immediate investigations by the SA Human Rights Commission, National SAPS, Office of the Public Protector and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate into the ongoing violent killings that has marred the Glebelands community.
Ndovela leaves behind 8 kids and a wife destitute. We appeal for donations to cover his funeral costs. Donations can be made here.
Ignore the right2know, and you ignore the right2live. We call for eyes on these issues, and this community.
