R2K WC to picket outside various police stations as part of 16 days of activism campaign!
To mark the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, R2K Western Cape will picket in various police stations to raise concerns about the manner in which cases on violence on Women and Children are addressed.
Our concern is about the delay in attending to the issues and the process that may even give the survivors second thoughts on reporting on these cases. We call on SAPS to make these cases a priority and to ensure safety and security for women and children in our communities.
We also urge the police and the justice system to protect and give advantage to the venerable groups, women, LGBTIQ+ as well as children.
The activism against gender based violence must continue 365 days so that woman and children are safe.
Here are our demands:
- We want a SAPS that prioritise the protection of women and children against violence and crime
- SAPS must have proper plan and support system for survivors
- Activism against gender based violence must continue 365 days
- We also demand that cases on gender based violence be solved
- Police must wear name tags so that we can be able to easily identify those who violate our rights when we report cases
- We demand police visibility in the community
