Since August 2010 we’ve been mobilising against draconian clauses in the Protection of Sate Information Bill (the Secrecy Bill). Our founding statement, “Stop the Secrecy Bill! Let the Truth Be Told!” laid out a “7 Point Freedom Test” for any such law. A lot has changed in the Bill since then (see resources below and our statements from Parliament) but the Bill has now been passed by Parliament, with several deep flaws unaddressed. Despite gathering dust on the President’s desk since November 2013, in R2K’s analysis, it remains a deep threat to the free flow of information.
