STATEMENT: R2K KZN says “hands off Thuli Madonsela”
Issued by Right2Know Campaign
The Right2Know Campaign rubbishes the ridiculous claim made by Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Kebby Maphatsoe about Public Protector Thuli Madonsela being a CIA spy.
ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH R2K KZN WILL BE PROTESTING OUTSIDE DURBAN CITY HALL FROM 12 NOON TO 2PM AGAINST THE TREATMENT DIRECTED AT ADVOCATE MADONSELA.
The Right2Know Campaign feels strongly that the continued and unwarranted harassment of the Public Protector poses a threat not only to her and her office but also to the democracy of the people of South Africa.
Advocate Madonsela is mandated by the Public Protector Act to strengthen constitutional democracy by investigating and redressing improper and prejudicial conduct, maladministration and abuse of power in state affairs.
Through her role as Public Protector, she holds power to account so that political, social, economic and environmental justice is realised. And Advocate Madonsela has done her job thoroughly, courageously, professionally and according to the Constitution and the relevant laws of the country.
The ruling party must quit interfering with the functioning of the Public Protector’s office as it is in violation of Section 181(4) of the Constitution, which states that no person or organ of state may interfere with the functioning of institutions supporting democracy.
We invite the public to join us in saying “hands off Thuli Madonsela”. An attack on the Public Protector’s office is an attack on our hard won democracy.
