R2K Champions 2017: Dr Yumna Moosa
Dr Moosa exposed bullying, racism and harassment of junior doctors at a hospital where she was doing her internship. She has since left her career as a medical doctor, but not before sparking a national conversation about the rights of junior doctors.
In July 2016, Dr Moosa’s video about systematic bullying, and a culture of sexism and racism at a public hospital went viral on Youtube. Speaking up about the treatment of doctors has damaged Dr Moosa’s career and she no longer plans to stay in clinical medicine.
But her bravery has gone some way to creating a safe space for junior professionals to talk about their experiences of bullying and harassment in the workplace and for people to seek support and get advice from others, through Facebook, university-hosted events and social networking.
