R2K Champions 2017: #SABC8
Eight SABC journalists were suspended for blowing the whistle on censorship and mismanagement at the public broadcaster. They have risked their jobs and safety to tackle the crisis at the SABC, in the interests of all South Africans. They have faced death threats.
A secret war was waged against members of the SABC 8 but they refused to back down in the face of death threats, bullets and intimidation. The workers were victimised for blowing the whistle on censorship and mismanagement at the SABC.
We commend them for staying the course even under these circumstances, including pursuing their case in the Constitutional Court. Through their actions, they have risked their jobs and safety to tackle the crisis at the SABC, in the interests of all South Africans.
