R2K to picket outside Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court!
The Right2Know Campaign will picket outside Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in Rustenburg tomorrow, 17 January 2017, in support of Marikana community activists, comrade Napoleon Webster and five other community activists who are being falsely charged in connection with the murder of a community member in Marikana in Rustenburg.
We believe the charges are fabricated instead the comrades were targeted for being vocal about how the “Hawks are being used to fight political scores” in the area. We are deeply concerned about how the state continues to abuse active community leadership in order to demoralize their leadership.
Picket Details:
DATE: 17 January 2017
TIME: 11AM
VENUE: Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court
Motsatsi Street, Rustenburg
WE DEMAND:
-
An immediate release of comrade Webster and his five co-accused
-
An end to the political tactics that aims to demoralize activism in Marikana
-
Webster and his co-accused were assaulted, electrocuted and denied medical assistance while in custody – we demand an immediate suspension and disciplinary action against the police officers involved. They must face tougher action for committing such human rights violations.
