National Summit Logistics
The 2019 National Summit will take place from Saturday 9 – Monday 11 March at the Bertha Activist Retreat in Boschendal, Western Cape – a 45 minute drive from Cape Town airport.
The weather promises to be fine and you should bring a swimming costume and walking shoes. We’ll also have space for some performances – so bring your talent, and a musical instrument if you play one.
Unfortunately our budget only allows us to cover the travel & accommodation of delegates elected at our Provincial Summits. Invited guest will need to arrange accommodation in the Boschendal area or in nearby Franschhoek, Stellenbosch or Paarl (all about 15 to 20 minutes from the venue) or Cape Town (an hours drive).
Conduct
At the National Summit we expect all delegates to conduct themselves in terms of R2K Activist Code of Conduct and the Bertha Agreements from our host – as well as this set of draft agreements that will be amended and adopted at the first session of the Summit:
Act in a comradely manner:
- Engage one another with respect, regardless of gender, race, class, or age;
- Always remember our shared purpose and commitment;
- Be honest and frank without getting personal and offending (don’t take debates personally);
- Make a conscious effort to get to know comrades from other Provinces in sessions and breaks;
- No excessive drinking of alcohol;
- Treat the venue & staff with respect and abide by the Bertha Agreements.
- No Sexual Harassment!
Participate Fully & Activity
- Be on time for the start of each session and keep to times in programme;
- Listen to understand before responding;
- Share the speaking time equitably. Keep your contributions short and focused to allow others time to engage. Be aware if you are dominating the discussion and encourage quieter comrades to share their views, questions or concerns.
- Before speaking wait to be recognised by facilitator and speak loud enough to be heard;
- No facebook, twitter, whatsapp, etc. Only use phones/laptops in breaks. (During sessions, in an emergency, people can reach you on 063 536 9291).
- Enjoy all our time together.
